So I wanted to take pictures of coffee & steam as a "theme". Yeah, not so much...
I had seen an awesome macro-style photo of coffee grounds. Wanting to re-create it, I set up my flash on a tripod and set the extension tube in front of my 40 mm lens. I fought everything - over-exposure, colours washing out, camera shadow...
As part of the series, I thought I'd do a sort of before & after sequence. Apparently, capturing images of steam is not as easy as I had originally thought. In this photo my "black" background showed up as blue !
This image is a little better, but I'm still very unhappy with not having a dark background.
Just to prove the point, my best background was the back of the coffee-maker itself ! But alas, my flash was too far away, and I was losing patience.
All in all this was a pretty unspectacular shoot ! Unfortunately, I was once more ill-prepared. I THOUGHT I knew what I wanted & what I needed to do to get it. Apparently not. I'll try again another day, when I am not so pressed for time.
