I have decided that as we approach the end of the year, I am going to add a new personal goal - I want to work on a 365 Project. For those of you who don't know what that is, the idea is simple. You pick an activity - in my case photography. Then you persue that activity every day for a year. There are different ways of attacking the project: some take a once-daily photo of the same scene. This would create a time-lapse of the change over the course of a year. Imagine taking a once-daily photo of a contruction site - you would start with a hole in the ground & finish with a completed building !
At this point, I'm leaning towards a simple project no theme, per se. Like many amateur photographers, I still tend to lean on my camera for a few things. Oh, I shoot in manual mode, adjusting shutter speed, aperture & ISO. But I let the camera take care of white balance and more importantly, auto-focus. So my 365 Day project will be straightforward - 365 days of photos with no in-camera assistance ! And I promise that if i end up tweaking things in post-processing, to include the Before & After images.
This simple project should help me advance my craft. On the one hand, it forces me to think about ALL of the technical details of the image. On the other hand, I am free to pursue whatever interests me at the time - macro photography, long exposures, landscapes... Whatever tickles my fancy ! Hopefully, at the end of the year, I will have all the basic techniques well & truly ingrained, allowing me next to focus on my creativity & composition skills.
Stay tuned - you never know what I'll take photographs of !
